Former
Bismarck, ND resident, Mark LaBere, enjoys skiing, and going hiking and
backpacking in Colorado's backcountry.
However, Mark LaBere also understands
that this beautiful and largely uninhabited region of the country can be
unforgiving, especially if you are not prepared and shares some wilderness
safety tips below.
1. Keep
your equipment in good working order. Before beginning an overnight hiking
trip, make sure to set up your tent, test your stove, and restock your first
aid kit.
2. Before
setting out, make sure to consider the season and possible weather conditions.
It is better to pack too much clothing than not enough.
3. Take the time to boil your water, purify it, or add iodine tablets to reduce the odds of getting sick, cautions former Bismarck, ND, resident Mark LaBere.
